Amtrol expansion tank

Amtrol expansion tank - a product consisting of a metal container containing within the second container in the form of elastic rubber for heating and plumbing supply buildings of varying height.

So far, the function of this apparatus is little known and most consumers are sold without the necessary explanations.
In this text we want to explain the need, and emphasize the importance of its function and why did not need to look for other solutions, leading to unjustified material costs.

The first chapter, we shined on "expansion tanks for heating systems"

Evolution of heating systems.

The old heating system housing using natural circulation of hot water, which is used to support piping of suitable diameter, the large size of which decreases with time, and more and more increasing distance from the boiler to the radiators.

Choosing expansion tank

Initially, all considered to be divided tanks into two basic types:

The first type - devices designed to compensate for the excess volume of coolant in the heating systems, as well as thermal expansion of water. This expansion tanks is Amtrol. When heated, the boiler temperature of the liquid-coolant in it increases. When heated, the liquid expands. This leads to an increase in its volume by about 0,3% for every 10 ° C. Therefore, the increase in temperature to 70 ° C initial volume of fluid will increase by approximately 3%. The liquid is practically incompressible and if the heating system is not equipped with optional device that allows somewhere to go this volume, it will inevitably happen its destruction. To avoid this, and apply expansion tanks.

The second type of tanks - a tank for water (Amtrol Fill-Trol). This device, built to keep the pressure hydraulic system, ensures the continued readiness of the system to work under steady pressure. Accumulator prevents the need for the pump each time the system requires.

Thus the accumulator maintains the pressure in the system, providing additional volume of water in the system to the desired level. Also, Amtrol tanks can be used to prevent the destruction of the system from water hammer. This phenomenon occurs in the pipes when I get disconnected or switched the pump, the rapid opening or closing the valve. Pressures can be much faster than static and it can lead to the destruction of pipelines, threaded connections, or plumbing devices. To avoid this, and given that the volume changes with small fluctuations of pressure, is proposed to use expansion tanks of small capacity - 2 Gallons ( Fill-Trol 109 Expansion Tank w/ Fill Valve ).

Also, tanks can be used as containers with liquid in fire fighting systems, fire fighting, and as a reserve in the tanks where electricity is turned off. Outwardly, Amtrol Fill-Trol are very similar to expansion tanks of heating systems. However, the appointment and service conditions have other, hence there are structural differences.

The main difference is in the material of the Amtrol, as well as the peculiarities of the location of air and water chambers. As a material for Amtrol Fill-Trol use food gums. To the material of the Amtrol expansion tanks usually do not set such high hygienic and sanitary requirements, so it is possible to use other materials, which will be discussed later.
